Mental health claims and psychosocial matched care

The principles of psychosocial matched care can be applied to primary mental health claims, though the evidence base is still developing. While peer-reviewed research is limited compared to physical injury claims, early interventions and tailored support show promise in improving outcomes for workers with mental health conditions.

The fundamental elements remain the same:

Early intervention

Initial screening and assessment

Targeted counselling

Workplace support

Regular monitoring

While controlled studies are limited, early implementations show encouraging results. The Australia Post psychosocial matched care approach adapted for mental health claims has had promising results.  Further details are provided in the Australia Post mental health case study.  A program specifically targeted for those with psychological conditions has also shown benefits from this approach. This is outlined in the case study of the Abilita screening tool and matched care approach.
