When RTW is successful, the injured worker is in paid employment at the time of interview (just over six months after their claim).
Injured workers who have returned to work and are still working at the time of the interview are said to have achieved a durable RTW. At the interview these people are asked to estimate how long they had been back at work. A longer period at work indicates an earlier durable RTW.
Since 2006-07 - when SA rates were equal to the national outcome - the average number of days back at work for injured South Australian workers at the time of interview has generally trended down. However a slight improvement in 2009-10, which was followed by a further decline in 2010-11, has now improved in 2011-12 but remains below the national average.
In 2011-2012 the length of durable RTW was approximately 135 days in South Australia, some 14 days below the national average.
Q. How long have you been back at work?
