Can botox injections replace surgery for refractory knee pain?

Exercise and surgery have long been the staple treatments for refractory knee pain - but is there a quicker (and less risky) fix?

Refractory knee pain is caused by problems at the patellofemoral joint, i.e. where the back of the kneecap connects with the rest of the knee. If the kneecap does not sit smoothly in its groove, it can rub against the rest of the knee when the knee is bent.
