Rehab Management program as a provider in the Allianz MyJourney program

Rehab Management, in collaboration with Allianz Australia Insurance Ltd, delivers the MyJourney program, an evidence-based psychosocial matched-care initiative designed to systematically identify injured workers at risk of prolonged recovery and provide targeted early interventions.

This case study has been included in the treater providers case study section as an example of a rehabilitation provider supporting psychosocial matched care.  It is also relevant as an implementation case study.

Screening and identification of elevated risk

The MyJourney screening tool is digitally administered by Allianz case managers, typically within two to six weeks following claim lodgement. Originally the tool included 12 questions and was expanded to 18, addressing key psychosocial factors including pain, daily living activities, quality of life, sense of injustice and sleep quality.

A proportion of claimants completing the survey are identified as high-risk.

Response rates vary regionally from 35% to 53%, with targeted case manager follow-ups implemented to enhance participation.

Early intervention and matched care

Rehab Management provides tailored interventions for claimants identified as high-risk, including:

Psychosocial counselling

Occupational rehabilitation services

Health coaching, including motivational interviewing

Biopsychosocial skill development addressing coping strategies and psychological resilience

Approximately 90% of high-risk claimants successfully engage with recommended interventions.

Validation and accuracy

The MyJourney tool has been internally benchmarked against Allianz's historical claims data, demonstrating strong predictive accuracy in identifying workers at elevated psychosocial risk. Comparative analysis confirms a high level of consistency, reinforcing confidence in the tool's reliability and effectiveness.

Implementation and engagement

MyJourney has been successfully implemented across various jurisdictions, including Western Australia, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory, and Tasmania. Regional response rates vary between 35% and 53%. Rehab Management and Allianz actively manage lower response rates through targeted communication and comprehensive case manager training, continually improving claimant engagement.

Case manager experience and capacity building

Rehab Management supports Allianz case managers through extensive operational and technological resources, enhancing their capability and confidence in managing psychosocial risks. Allianz case managers report improved job satisfaction, reduced emotional stress, and increased effectiveness due to structured support, clear referral pathways, and practical resources provided by Rehab Management.

Program outcomes and effectiveness

Early data indicate that MyJourney:

Reduces overall claim durations and complexity

Involves initial higher service costs, offset by reductions in long-term claims expenses

Improves overall case management efficiency and claimant outcomes

Longer-term evaluations of program effectiveness and cost-benefit analyses are currently ongoing.

Continuous improvement

Rehab Management actively participates in continuous program evaluation and refinement through regular data analysis, stakeholder feedback, and adjustments to both screening and intervention practices. .

Ethical and privacy considerations

Allianz and Rehab Management focus on ethical standards and claimant privacy, with transparency in data collection and robust security for sensitive psychosocial data. Clear communication regarding data usage, purpose, and claimant rights is regularly reviewed for the  MyJourney approach.
