Center for Disability Research,
Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety

Hopkinton, Massachusetts

The Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety (LMRIS) in Hopkinton, Mass. is seeking a senior research scientist to join the Center for Disability Research. The mission of the Center is to conduct applied research on the causes, consequences, and prevention of work disability. We are part of a fully funded research Institute, committed to a high quality of scientific work, and disseminating all findings in peer-reviewed scientific publications.

This researcher will develop, direct, and implement studies to examine the causes and costs of disability in the workplace, and to identify effective methods to enhance return to work outcomes. A significant component of our research has involved analysis of our extensive medical and disability workers’ compensation claims data, and publicly available national data on medical care and work disability outcomes.
Candidates should have advanced degrees in the areas of health services research, epidemiology, or health economics, and an established track record of relevant research and scientific publications. Research interests in the areas of rehabilitation, disability and workers’ health are preferred but not required. A strong methodological background, and the ability to implement creative and incisive analytic approaches are essential. This is a fully salaried position; benefits are highly competitive.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an internationally-recognized, multidisciplinary team. Over the past 11 years, the Center for Disability Research has achieved international recognition through more than 100 scientific publications, serving as co-organizers of major international conferences, and has received major awards for the quality and impact of our research.

The Liberty Mutual Research Institute staff represents the fields of biomechanics, experimental and cognitive psychology, epidemiology, tribology, physiology, engineering, sociology, biostatistics and the clinical sciences. We have excellent laboratory, computer, statistical, research and technical support available on-site, and our research activities are internally funded.

We have active collaborations with Harvard University, the University of Massachusetts, and other international academic leaders in our fields of interest; local faculty appointments and participation in post-graduate teaching activities are strongly encouraged.
