Managing Return To Work for Supervisors

While there’s a growing body of evidence that proves best practice return to work, many workplaces say it’s difficult to get that information to those who need it.

The supervisor’s role is pivotal in return to work. Connected to the employee and their work, supervisors are well placed to observe physical, mental, personal or behavioural changes. They are in a good position to prevent problems, and to facilitate a return after an illness or injury.

Training supervisors has been shown to improve return to work outcomes, AND leave the trained supervisors happier and more satisfied with their work.

Two years ago we developed a training program, based on the research done at the Liberty Mutual Work Disability Research Centre. Managing Return To Work For Supervisors sets up supervisors to make the most of their role and positively impact return to work. The program is designed to teach supervisors about communication in return to work, provides an understanding of the basics of musculoskeletal problems, and ergonomic problem solving. It’s about helping to foster good working relationships while encouraging employees to be more productive.

While the training package provides a comprehensive suite of documents (facilitators guide, participants workbook, Powerpoint presentation etc), becoming familiar with the package as a trainer takes time.

The RTW Matters Managing Return To Work For Supervisors training program is available to all clients with a corporate unlimited subscription. The training package is also available POA for other types of subscribers.
