In 2011-12 the South Australian durable RTW rate - the percentage of workers who had returned to work and were still working at the time of the survey - has also slipped further away from the national average.

From the 2006-07 to 2008-09 period South Australia managed to close a significant gap between its durable RTW rate and that of the national average. In 2008-2009 the South Australian rate (71%) was almost identical to the national average (72%).

Since that period the national average has trended up (to 75% in 2011-12 from 72% 2008-09), while the South Australian rate has trended down (from 71% in 2008-09 down to 66% in 2011-12).
