Advantage of self-report questionnaires

The use of self-report questionnaires confers several advantages.

Self-report questionnaires facilitate independent responses from workers, reducing the potential biases that can occur through conversations.  

By allowing workers to articulate their experiences and perceptions directly, questionnaires can uncover the psychosocial barriers that might not be readily observable through other means.

The structured format of these questionnaires, often employing Likert scales, enables the impact of various factors on the worker's recovery to be quantified. This quantification is used for baseline measurement AND enables an evaluation of changes post-intervention.  This provides a tangible means to assess the effectiveness of interventions over time.

Further, when workers personally complete these questionnaires they take ownership of their responses. This sense of ownership is pivotal during the discussion of results as it fosters greater openness to understanding the impact of their psychosocial factors and enhances their receptivity to learning self-management skills.

Responses to questionnaires can be calculated by software to collate them into biopsychosocial domains, thereby enhancing insight into individual psychosocial barriers.
