About this event
Join ReturnToWorkSA and SafeWork SA for this online workshop to learn how to reduce harm and support a mentally healthy workplace when addressing traumatic events or exposure to traumatic materials within the workplace.
This online workshop will not be recorded.
With psychosocial regulations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) now in effect, this interactive 2-hour workshop will help you understand and manage a psychosocial hazard that affects many workplaces: being exposed to traumatic experiences. This includes situations such as being exposed to critical incidents, natural disasters, or listening or reading distressing descriptions of traumatic events from others.
Hosted by ReturnToWorkSA’s Mentally Healthy Workplace Service and Samantha Atkins, Principal Inspector – Organisational Psychology, SafeWork SA, this session will feature a guest speaker Amy Nicholas, Churchill Fellow and social worker. This session will cover:
-
What is a traumatic event? Understanding direct trauma and vicarious trauma;
-
What is meant by a trauma-informed approach and practices;
-
Prevention-first approach: applying risk management strategies for preventing or minimising exposure;
-
Effective post exposure responses and supports.
Who should attend: Employers, WHS Managers, HR Managers, RTW Coordinators, and other leaders seeking proactive strategies to reduce harm and meet compliance obligations.
Why attend: Gain practical tools and insights to help create safer, more supportive workplaces - before, during, and after traumatic exposure.
