How to match support to need

People recover best when barriers to their recovery are identified early, and the type and intensity of support are matched to their individual needs, rather than giving everyone the same response.

We’ve looked at how to notice when a recovery is at risk, and at the conversation that follows.  This article is about the decision that follows both the noticing and the conversation. Once you can see that someone needs support, the decision becomes: how much support and what kind do they need?  The evidence keeps returning to the same answer — match the support to the need. It’s simple to say and easy to get wrong....
