Early intervention following injury is widely recognised as best practice in compensation systems, yet implementation remains inconsistent across Australian schemes. This presentation will explore findings from a qualitative study involving researchers, insurers, and regulators examining the barriers and facilitators to implementing early intervention programmes in compensable settings.

Key themes discussed will include:

  • The gap between recognising the value of early intervention and implementing it consistently in practice

  • How organisational culture, leadership, and institutional inertia influence innovation

  • The impact of low-value care and legislative complexity on claimant recovery

  • Why delays in claim lodgement create missed opportunities for timely support

  • Potential system-level strategies to improve implementation and claimant outcomes

The webinar will also explore practical implications for insurers, clinicians, regulators, and researchers working within compensable injury systems.
