Pilates was originally created in the early 20th century to recondition ballet dancers after injury. The discipline was repackaged in the early 2000s as a fitness class. In Australia today, most gyms offer pilates classes and private studios operate in every state. Pilates involves a series of activities focused on increasing core strength.
