Webinar recording — Reducing incidences of violence and aggression against aged care workers

Tatjana Jokic

Tatjana Jokic talks us through the aims, implementation and outcomes of a successful pilot program to reduce the incidence of violence and aggression towards care workers.

As part of WorkCover Queensland’s Injury Risk Reduction Initiatives (IRRI), in early 2022 JK Corporate Resourcing worked with Churches of Christ Residential Aged Care Facility (Crows Nest) on a pilot that trialled the use of Resident Experience Ambassadors in an aged care setting. The trial showed a reduction in the number of incidences of violence and aggression towards care workers.

In this webinar, one of the Project Leads, Tatjana Jokic, talks us through the aims, implementation and outcomes of the Ambassador pilot program, including:

•    how a biopsychosocial approach helps to address the unmet needs and challenging behaviours of residents
•    how upskilling staff to the new role of Resident Experience Ambassadors enabled them to de-escalate behaviours that often led to staff injury
•    the trial outcomes and improvements to the health, safety and wellbeing of facility staff and residents.
