Snapshot of Australian claims, 2015-16

The latest in Australian workers compensation data: we summarise claims numbers by gender, profession, industry, body part and type of injury or illness.

In 2015-16, Australians made 104,777 “serious claims” for workers compensation, i.e. claims associated with a total of at least one week off work. (The days don’t have to be consecutive.) The vast majority of claims were for injury and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) (90%); only 10% were due to diseases, including mental illness.
