The severity of overexertion injuries in construction rises with age, while the frequency of different types of musculoskeletal disorders shift. All age groups could benefit from preventative measures at work, promoting retention and RTW.

Amongst construction workers, the rate of overexertion claims rises, then falls, with age. This may be because older construction workers take on less risky tasks, or because workers with musculoskeletal disorders simply leave the industry in midlife.
